Wildewood Real Estate
Across the nation we are hearing doom and gloom reports about the real estate market and the state of our economy.  In life we know that things are never quite as bad as they seem, and that same sentiment can be applied, here.  The South Carolina real estate market, just like the rest of the country, is experiencing a rise of foreclosures.  The news tells us this is a Buyer’s Market.  But if we take a good look at Columbia, South Carolina real estate, we see that although there are a lot of homes for sale and houses are taking a bit longer to sell, the median price is actually on the rise.

Good for the sellers of Columbia, South Carolina who are holding out for what their property is worth.  The more the sellers negotiate down, the lower the value of the neighborhood and appraisals go and the cycle continues.  This is how the cycle continues to bring down the market and how we, as the buyers and sellers, are responsible for it.  So if we can bring it down, we can take it back up.  That’s just what they are doing in Richland County in areas like Shandon.

Columbia South Carolina’s distinctive array of neighborhoods is well represented by Shandon.  A throw back to old time character and charm, these well kept homes are as fresh today as they were in the 1920’s and 1930’s when they were built.

Shandon is home to three of the top school districts in the state of South Carolina.  Hand Middle School, in fact, is gaining notoriety thanks to a partner in its creative writing classes, Karen Petit.  Karen is the author of the children’s books series “Shandon’s Ivy League”.  Ivy is a dog, an actual Shandon native, who inspired her owner, Karen Petit, to write these fabulous children’s mysteries that are gaining in popularity.  The first book, “The Mystery of the Screecher Creature” revolves around Ivy.  Ivy is a real life hero of Shandon, as well as in the books, having nearly lost her life as a puppy when some “bad guys” were planning on throwing her in the river and drowning her if she wasn’t purchased that day at the flea market.

The rich culture of Shandon has a natural appeal to folks, the excellent schools are a draw to families and new businesses in the area, and with a median sales price of $275,000 it doesn’t appear that Shandon is suffering at the hands of any buyer’s market.  With so many choices and negotiating to be done, it is important to have the help of a real estate agent who is familiar with Shandon and South Carolina, who can identify your needs and help you buy the perfect house to raise your family.
